What is a chlamydia/GC culture?
I recently got a Pap smear done in November. When I got the results back a few weeks ago, it had 2 tests marked that had been performed: the Pap and the GC culture. Is this a common test to perform? I know what chlamydia is, but I’m not too sure about the GC part. Any help is appreciated. Thanx.
GC stands for Gonorrhea, Yes, it’s usually performed during a pap smear. Hope this helps…
labcorp billing and STD testing?
I got a bill from LabCorp the other day. I had gotten chlamydia and treatment for it earlier, but I never remember being tested with LabCorp. [I guess my GYNO tests w/them] Anyways, on the bill it is asking me to pay for 79.40 of it, and it says it “represents the co-insurance, deductible or co-pay amount due after notice from my insurance co.” First: my dad pays the bills [i'm 19] & it says what I was billed for, which was “chlamydia/GC, DNA probe w/rflx” “chlamydia competiton rflx” “N. gonorrh competition rflx” Now, I know it was irresponsible of me to trust that the guy I was with was truthful to me, but I don’t want my dad knowing I had Chlamydia. What do I do when I give him the bill? He’s going to see what I was billed for. Also, am I able to pay with the insurance card that was given to me? It works like a credit card, but remember what it said about ‘copay’? Or do I have to give it to my dad and have him pay from check or credit card?
If your dad doesn’t know what “rflx” means then you may be ok. Rflx means reflex (which means positive/retest). It is common for women to have GC DNA Probe as a routine test during a pap smear. Just tell your Dad it was a routine exam, or fess up. You could also pay the $79 and be done with it (nobody would know). Next time be more careful. Your lucky that’s all it was. You can pay the copay, it’s usually 20% or less. Call your insurance company and ask them how much it is. Make sure your insurance has paid their portion, then pay your copay.
Found this LabCorp bill at my house! What does it mean?
chlamydia/GC, DNA Probe w/Rflx
Its a bill for almost $90. It has my sister name on it. And since it has the word chlamydia on it I am freaked out. I found it in a pile on the kitchen table.
Please help, I don’t understand the terminology and I want to know if my sister is ok!
it means she was tested for chlamydia, it doesn’t mean she tested positive. results don’t show up on bills. Chlamydia test by DNA probe is a rapid type test, if it comes back positive, then they “reflex” to an actual chlamydia culture. the dna probe is quicker, thats why they do that first, the culture takes days, and is used as a confirmatory test if dna probe is +
Can women has PID without contact STD?
It was possible. I was negative for Chlamydia and GC. On my result note it said “possible PID” so I already got treatment for an infection.
Well, PID stands for Pelvic inflammatory disease. It could be caused from a lot of things. Usually it’s from a STD sexually transmitted disease that wasn’t treated in the early stages so it progressed to PID.
Bill for ‘Chlamydia/GC Amplification? Does this mean I have it?
I went to the gyno about a week ago and they did a swab test and urine test and the routine check-up, and today I received a bill in the mail from LabCorp for $122 for “Chlamydia/GC Amplification”. What does this mean? I haven’t received any calls from my doctor saying I have either of these, is this just the bill for the testing, or do I have one of them and just haven’t received a call to commense in treatment? Please help! My Gyno’s office is closed and I’m panicking here!!
Call your doc, but you just received a bill for the tests they ran… Lab tests are “amplifications” of bacterial or viral strains of infection.
